Came here for a work lunch and this little risotto was splendid. Tiramisu was also lovely - very creamy with a toffee crumble. Since it's connected to 1221 I will say the vibes tend to be a littlecorporate-ish though.

Great spot! Menu highlights include the shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, lobster pasta, oysters (take their recommendations), grilled swordfish, sticky rice with tuna on top. Their hummus is surprisingly good considering it's a seafood place. Brian, Tony and Miguel are outstanding bartenders. It's a good spot for happy hour or a sit down dinner. Only knock is sometimes the clientele isn't the best, but that's not their fault. Comes with the neighborhood unfortunately. You get the occasional cable news or finance type who think they're better than everyone else and treat the staff like dirt. It's too bad because other than that, it's an excellent place to eat. Beautiful bar and dining room. Really top notch.

Wow, we were blown away by this place! First of all, the ambiance: oh my goodness the interior is so pretty. The first room/bar area is eh, but walk past to the hostess stand and you'll see what I mean. The service: I have nothing negative to say at all. From the second we stepped inside, each employee was kind, personable, and attentive. Our waiter was so wonderful, the perfect balance of attentiveness and not hovering! The food: THE FOOD. We had the crab cake for an appetizer and the sauce that came with it was almost as impressive as the crab cake itself. I had the lobster scampi, and I'm so serious when I say it is one of my top 10 best meals I've ever had. The lobster was not fishy/lobster-y at all. The noodles were the authentic thick-cut noodles you get in Italy. Such an exquisite restaurant, forever on my NYC go to places when I'm in town!!!

I would give it a one star based on food alone but the service was great. That being said I had a tiny portion of Mahi that tasted like rubber for over $50. This place must be a tourist trap because they have a theatre menu. Other than that I have no Idea why people would go here. If you can spend this type of money go to Delfrisco's next door at least you will fill up. I had to get a slice of pizza on the way back to the hotel. And i'm not kidding...and we had appetizers.

Beautiful setting just off Times Square and close to anything Broadway. We went for a pre theater meal and they were prompt and thorough with service. The food was great, definitely loved the delicata squash side dish.

**4.5 stars** What a beautiful restaurant and staff! Came here for a business lunch and had a wonderful experience. I ordered the swordfish ceviche appetizer and bronzini for the main. The olive bread that came with our meal was tasty but a bit too oily for more. It did have a nice crust though. The swordfish ceviche was well prepared and tasty. The bronzini over a bed of spinach which was nicely dressed. The bronzini itself; however, was cooked well but was very small. I ordered an espresso to have with my cookies and the pairing was delightful. Service was great and attentive. I would note that it got pretty packed during lunch with a vast majority of folks on a business lunch. Overall it was a great experience but if you're starving, you may opt for something outside the lunch menu.
Be the first to ReplyService is great.
Crab cakes are good. Branzino is the smallest portion that you have ever seen. One small fillet from a dwarf fish. I have never seen a serving that small.
Be the first to ReplyQuintessential midtown Manhattan seafood restaurant.
Started off with the most delicious focaccia. Burrata was light and airy. Ceviche was tangy with some white strawberries. The best appetizer was the octopus served with pine nuts, harissa and chickpeas. Sheep Milk Ravioli was also an incredibly rich pasta dish. For my entree I had the most delicious Dover sole fillet table side and topped with the most perfect meunière sauce. Dessert options were interesting. I finally settled on the orange dreamsicle parfait with my personal favorite, olive oil cake and topped with orange sorbet. My friend ordered the pistachio semifreddo which was very flavorful as well. Service was excellent. Vibe is very lively especially in the bar area. Highly recommend for post work drinks or work dinners.
Be the first to ReplyWe went here for dinner after seeing the Top of the Rock.
The service was great, very friendly and attentive. However, the food was average at best. None of the 4 entrees we ordered had any real flavor. Bland is about all I can say of the food. Incredibly underwhelming. Will not be coming back.

I came here for a business dinner, and even though I wasn't paying for it, I didn't think the food was worth the price. I was thinking of trying the chef's tasting menu but decided against it since I didn't need an entree and pasta dish. The octopus for our appetizer was my favorite part. It came with a pine nut harissa sauce which paired perfectly with the octopus. I really didn't like my main dish though which was the grilled sword fish. We also got creamed spinach on the side which was the best part of the entree. Drinks were also pretty good.

Food was amazing, service was incredible, ambiance was perfect! We had an amazing time celebrating my boyfriends birthday, just the 2 of us. We did the tasting menu and it was worth every penny!
Be the first to ReplyThe service was great.
The food was delicious. I got the hangar steak my wife got the monkfish. Both was amazing. The oysters were impeccable. The dessert my wife had was amazing. I got the cookies and it was hilarious yet kind of pathetic (hence why I took off a star)

We had a 5pm reservation and a show as 7pm. Told the waiter and we were out by 6:35pm. Will be back again and told others about it.

Delicious food, great service until it was time for our check. Then the server disappeared for 25 minutes. I would definitely go back; the only downside was it is very loud. Hard to have a conversation.

I'm a bit surprised by some of the reviews, but as usual, my meal here last night was nothing less than stellar. I've been coming here for years and have never had a dish that wasn't excellent. My mom and I came for dinner and had the 3-course theater menu to accompany our Broadway show. The scallion focaccia bread they served the table was outstanding: super soft, and the flavor was mild but not overpowering with onion. It's definitely one of the best breads I've ever had, and I know my carbs! For dinner, I had the swordfish ceviche. The flavors melded together perfectly, and there were sizable chucks of fish. Loved it! I had the monkfish with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes as my second course. Whew! This was so amazingly seasoned I wanted to go back into the kitchen and learn all of their seasoning secrets! Those potatoes were so creamy, and I loved all of the other components. My mom's steak and fries were very tasty as well. The steak was juicy and cooked perfectly. For dessert, I had the orange creamsickle parfait. It was an orange lovers' dream! So tasty! My mom had the mixed fruit sorbet, which she loved. All in all, it was an excellent meal per usual, and the service was on point: very attentive and sincere.

Top notch service, generous cocktails, excellent food -- what's not to love. Squid ink pasta was wonderful and the Dover sole was expertly prepared and deboned. To die for. We really enjoyed it here.

Beautiful and convenient location, however the acustics in the room creat an extremely loud setting for dinner. It was almost impossible to hear my 3 table mates on a Wednesday night. The food is very good but not extraordinary, and the portion/price ratio leaves room for improvement. Overall, we had a good experience but I would likely look elsewhere for my next business dinner.

We arrived on time for our reservation but it took them 20 or so minutes to seat us. That wasn't so bad, but then we sat at our table for at least another 20 minutes before anyone came to take drink orders and give us menus. Our server was apologetic and he was a nice guy, but the service remained slow throughout the night. The portions were on the small side, and they were not inexpensive. However, the food was delicious and creatively presented. We enjoyed stone crabs, which are a treat to find in New York as we have only had them when we travel to Florida during the short stone crab season. We also had the bouillabaisse, which was flavorful and presented in a modern way with classic flavor, as well as the loup de mer en croute, which was crispy and light with delicate sauce. The dessert, a pistachio and chocolate creation, was the highlight of the meal. Bottom line: the food was delicious, the recipes and presentation were innovative, but be prepared to empty your wallet and make sure you have a few hours to spend given the speed of the service.
Be the first to ReplyWas really terrible.
Went here for a small bday celebration to get some seafood. Oysters were okay. Salmon tartar was horrible, just chunks of salmon on a piece of bread that had been pressed in a panini press. The amount of bulls blood on there was just ridiculous. We returned this. Octopus was really underwhelming. Not cooked great and the usual chopped olives and purée. Very salty. Servers were in the weeds but very good. Very hospitable. We didn't want to complain but they knew something was wrong. They offered us something else or a drink at the bar. The manager was very sweet. Overall, just another disappointing long standing joint in New York that could be so much better than it is.

Place looks very nice but the food was horrible, so much salt I almost threw up on my plate. The fish tasted like it was thrown in a bin of salt and thrown onto a plate only to be drowned in shellfish broth. (this dish was $39)

This was a tough one to rate because there was a lot to like about it. But what ultimately pushed me to the three star side over the four star side was the service, which is the one thing that is the difference between our coming back again or not. We eat out a lot, and to me service is as important as the taste. Here's the thing ... If the restaurant was busy, it might be understandable. If it had been New Year's Eve at 10 p.m. (or even at 8 p.m.), it might be understandable. But it was 6:30 on NYE. Not even half the restaurant was full; maybe a quarter. A good number of servers and back waiters were literally just standing around. That our server walked by us a countless number of times without ever asking us for a drink order; or that it took over an hour for him to actually take our food order (after having to flag him down originally to take our oyster order), is just inexcusable and bad waitering. Speaking of oysters, we ordered more than a dozen, two of each. I was dumbfounded that the person who brought the oysters out didn't take a moment to tell us which were which; and I was even more dumbfounded when we flagged our waiter over to ask him and he told us that he would have no idea and we should have asked the guy who brought them out. Wait, what? And speaking of oysters (part two), I was surprised that at a place like this, given that seafood is supposed to be their specialty and that their oysters are at the prices they are, that they would be served with most not being released and having shell fragments. Well, there went us ordering another dozen-plus. Our waiter was not so much in the weeds that he could not stop to take our order in more than an hour. And he ABSOLUTELY was not too in the weeds to take time to stop and ask us at ANY point how things were, if everything was okay or if we needed anything. That's ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE.And NO, it had NOTHING to do with being NYE. The restaurant just wasn't that busy. My husband is a server at a well-known restaurant. Even if they were that busy, at some point, someone should have simply asked how things were. But, they weren't that busy at all. This isn't a new place. They didn't just open. Oceana has been doing this long enough to know better and to train their servers better.Food-wise the restaurant (sans the issue with the oysters) was mostly spectacular. The tuna tartare was nice. Though the octopus was over-cooked and a bit tough. My steak was absolutely, perfectly cooked, which is not something I often find. Most places don't do medium rare correctly. And Oceana was spot on, melt-in-your-mouth perfection. My husband had the veal chop. I mean while the food was great; honestly, if the service isn't up to par and causes more annoyance than enjoyment, it's nearly impossible to enjoy the food or experience because you're sitting there stewing and getting irritated by former. That's exactly what happened to us and what ultimately will be the reason I'm likely not to come back despite being our kind of restaurant and close to home.
