Quite good
Definitely welcoming place, good portions, excellent salmon and herring, I didn't order whale meat because I find it disrespectful for the ecosystem, prices are high but given the average prices in Iceland it's okay.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent restaurant with honest prices given the quality.
We had dinner on February 12th in a small, very welcoming environment and a very nice girl who presented us the menu. We both ate the cod fillet with two different sauces, both excellent. The vanilla ice cream is also excellent. The second dinner the next day was always excellent with a wonderful halibut and to finish an excellent chocolate dessert. Fair prices compared to Reykjavik costs
Be the first to ReplyVery good
Very good, typical prices of Icelandic cuisine. The fish au gratin and the grilled whale are highly recommended. The dessert at Skype is clearly better than the others, which perhaps weren't worth it considering the cost

The restaurant is warm, the service is very pleasant! The dishes are plentiful and delicious. On the menu the choice is varied (mainly fish, but meat is offered), what we appreciated as a tourist are the Icelandic specialties which are offered (whale, shark, etc.). As French people, we played the game for the starter specialties… it’s worth trying! The dishes are excellent. We recommend ++++.
Be the first to ReplyHigh quality authentic Icelandic food
Menu full of authentic Icelandic fare. All very tasty, although some dishes require an adventurous palate. Fermented shark is a requirement for any trip to Iceland, but the appetizer that I really liked was the smoked Puffin. Guillemot (seabird) entree was a little gamey, but the yogurt sauce with chunks of apple and honey made it delicious. Whale steak was awesome. Like steak, with a blue fish flavor.
Be the first to ReplyService was fantastic but we did not enjoyed the food that much
First I must highlight that the staff was fantastic with us; they served us food even when the restaurant was about to close in 15 minutes. The food is made with local fresh products. We tried whale, puffin and a type of local fish. Sadly we did not really enjoyed the flavor or the seasoning of the whale and the puffin but that is ok for us as we understand that each country had their own identify and history represented in their food so we just wanted to tried and we were prepared for any outcome. We did enjoy the bread that was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant with Delicious Food
Started with Cured Salmon. The presentation was lovely and the fish perfect! Main course- smoked haddock with garlic veggies and rice- delish! Except had onions when I requested none. Husband had the grilled lamb fillet with baked potato. Both were fantastic. The he servers were so very friendly as were the other diners. We had such a great time, we left without paying ( I thought hubby had it vice versa!) when we called upon realizing our error, the staff was understanding and appreciative! This place was recommended by one of our cabbies! It was excellent!
Be the first to ReplyGood for whale
Having eaten whale on a previous visit to Iceland we chose 3 Frakkar as the best rated restaurant for this in Reykjavik. We weren't disappointed. The room is small with not much room between tables but cosy and atmospheric. It may not be for all but the smoked puffin brest was fabulous (think duck!) and the whale steak a delight though the accompanying baked potato and vegetables a little unrefined. All in all a very enjoyable meal.

I recommend everything On The menu. 9.5/10 Staff is amazing, everything From the breakfast soup till the end is remarkable. Lovely place. The quality of the meat is 10/10.

We started with raw whale and puffin, for the main course we had wild seabird guillemots and whale steak. From the appetizer to the dessert we found everything delicious served with a smile and kindness
Be the first to ReplyTry puffin, whale, horse and shark
The food is excellent. Our server was very cold. She didn't seem like she wanted to work that night. The food and the restaurant made up for it. We lived the horse and the whale entrees. The wild bird was ok. Definitely worth a try. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great and the place is very clean. I would definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, bad service
We really enjoyed our food at 3 Frakkar. We had the chance to try lots of authentic Icelandic food, including puffin, whale and horse. It was all presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Unfortunately, the service here really lets them down. We were in a corner table and the staff never came over to us without us asking, which meant we had a long wait to order and for our plates to be cleared, even though the restaurant wasn't very busy when we went. Overall, the food was great but we did not feel like valued customers.

Love the options of food available. We had the roast whale, horse steak and catfish.Tasted great too! Their cocktails were good also.
Be the first to ReplyGREAT VALUE - OFF THE BEATEN PATH
Prior to our short trip from USA to Iceland, heard rumblings of how high priced food would be. We also wanted a place with authentic Icelandic cuisine. A nearby pub owner recommended 3 Frakkar (3 Coats.) In a residential area for starters, and outside and inside nicely decorated. Like typical American tourists, had to try whale, horse, and puffin - but "normal" food (lamb, fish, etc.) also served. Everything was expertly prepared, and staff were friendly and efficient. (Our local pub friend's only complaint was sometimes the staff were too quick - but we didn't feel rushed.) For appetizer, I enjoyed the "Mixed herring plate with eggs and malt bread" with three different sauces. For my main, thought the "Panfried fillet of Halibut with Langoustine and langoustine-sauce" was also very good. House wine per glass was reasonably priced. Our group shared desserts, and chocolate cake and special "Skyr" cheesecake also excellent. Coming from NYC area, total cost of $65 p.p. seemed like a bargain for our "special meal" out - shared appetizers, main, and shared desserts + one drink each. Definitely worth the hike up the hill.

My boyfriend and I went here at the very end of our stay, and it was a very good choice. It's a good walk away from the city center, but the food made it so worth it. I'd definitely recommend it for a more fancy night out. I experimented with smoked puffin and a whale steak, and wound up loving both. Though, i didn't manage to finish them so i had to pack them up to go. Thankfully, there was absolutely no problem there. The staff were by far the best part of the experience. Everyone was extremely friendly and we had a very nice chat with some while leaving. I will definitely be coming back next time i visit.

Be the first to ReplyAmazing first night In Reykjavik
We had the most wonderful meal here on our first night in Iceland! Food was superb, we tried a number of Icelandic dishes that were all absolutely delicious. We had the best hospitality I have experienced in a while from our server Renee, who felt like a friend by the end of our meal. Would absolutely go back!
